It is located at the river banks of the Danube and around 60 km from Vienna (Austria). Bratislava has an extended history (between 1536 and 1830 eleven Hungarian kings and queens were crowned at St. Martin's Cathedral) and keeps a cozy historical center, frequented by tourists. Traveler tips

Using public transport

Public transport in Bratislava (buses, trolleybuses and trams) is very reliable, following the timetables except short delays at peak hours. Tickets can be bought at newsagents and vendor machines, the latter accepting coins only. Tickets cost 0.70 and 0.90 Euros for 15 and 60 minutes, respectively (useful to choose the option in the vendor machines). The 15 min. ticket does not allow you to make transfers. You need to validate the ticket at the machines inside the coach (do not be surprised to see that many users are not validating the tickets, since the monthly pass is the most popular choice among locals).

Public transport available in proximity of Hotel Tatra (Hodžovo námestie stop): buses 34, 83, 84, 93; trolleybuses 203, 206, 207, 208, 212; night lines N53, N55, N61, N70, N72.

Taking a taxi

Taking a licenced taxi in Bratislava is often an affordable option. However, there are many unlicended taxis that take advantage of the tourists, charging prices several times higher than the usual fare. You can find some tips to avoid inflated prices here . Licenced taxi transfer to Vienna airport is more expensive than the usual fare, costing around 50-60 Euros.
